Frances Ward, PhD, RN, APNC
David R. Devereaux Chair in Nursing
Frances Ward completed her undergraduate studies at Rutgers University and graduate work at New York University. Formerly professor and founding dean of the school of nursing at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Ward established undergraduate and graduate programs on multiple campuses and launched an interdisciplinary doctoral program in urban systems. Her research, focusing on care delivery among uninsured and underinsured populations, evolves from a deep commitment to quality healthcare in urban communities. Ward maintains a community-based primary care practice in Camden, New Jersey, and has received grants from The William Randolph Hearst Foundations and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to support her urban health efforts. Rutgers University Press will soon be publishing her book, On Duty: Power, Politics, and the History of Nursing in New Jersey.
