Ian Greaves completed his medical degree work and undergraduate studies at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Greaves was a faculty member at Harvard School of Public Health for eight years and directed the Harvard Educational Resource Center. In 1989, he joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota, and during his 20 years there he assumed a variety of roles that included associate dean for administration and research, deputy director and director for the Center for Research in Agricultural Safety and Health. He has been a leading researcher exploring lung disorders caused by airborne exposures in the workplace and the general environment, agricultural health and safety issues, health and safety problems of small businesses, workers' compensation, and international environmental and occupational health issues. He has published more than 105 articles in professional journals. His technical reports and public testimony have been instrumental in influencing policy positions with the U.S. Senate sub-committee on Labor, NIOSH, the American Public Health Association and the Minnesota Commissioner of Labor and Industry.
