I hope this holiday season brings you joy and the time for reflection and relaxation. On behalf of the Boyer College community, I want to thank our supporters who help to keep our programs strong. Below are recent news highlights -- note the Grammy nomination!

Temple-Commissioned Piece Draws Grammy Nomination

"fourth stream...La Banda," an orchestra, jazz combo and solo trumpet composition composed by Bill Cunliffe and commissioned by the Boyer College of Music and Dance, has been nominated for a Grammy Award.

Music at the Rock

A new chamber music series at Rock Hall will start in March. Come to campus for the first concert on March 20 and hear Boyer faculty and Philadelphia Orchestra member CJ Chang on viola with Amy Yang on piano in Rock Hall's intimate recital hall. All concerts are free and valet parking will be available.

Philadelphia String Project Fills Gap in Local Music Education Landscape (video)

Boyer students are gaining experience teaching and Philadelphia children are learning to play stringed instruments through the Philadelphia String Project at Temple. Alumni Tracy Parente (BM '86) and Benjamin Blazer (BM '99, MM '05) are lead teachers, under the guidance of master teacher Helen Kwalwasser, in a program designed by the National String Project Consortium.

Dance Alumni Reconnect at Fall Reunion

On Oct. 2, dozens of dance alumni returned to campus for a reunion that celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Dance Department. Reunion activities included a tour of campus, the Alumni Dance Concert and a reception.

Students Earn Dean's Grants

The inaugural round of Dean's Grants has been awarded to 15 Boyer students.

Class Notes

Rida C. Davis (BS '60, Ed.M '62) passed away on Oct. 7, 2010. She was a dedicated musician and music educator in Pennsylvania and Connecticut who touched the lives of many. Click here to read her full obituary.

Marc-Andre Hamelin (BM ’83, MM ’85) has been nominated for a Grammy award in the category of Best Instrumental Soloist Performance (without orchestra) for his piano recording "Hamelin: Etudes." This is his ninth Grammy nomination.
