School of Communications and Theater

Rick BeardsleyDear colleagues and friends:

The entire SCT community mourns the loss of our friend, colleague and mentor, Rick Beardsley (RTF '84). Rick, whose dedication to SCT students spanned more than a quarter century, passed away on June 24.

As we try to comprehend this loss, many are asking how we can honor his myriad contributions and his exemplary life. It is difficult to accurately convey all he has done for us, because he was always dedicated to helping others. He devoted his professional life to helping students and alumni realize their career aspirations. His contributions far exceeded the hours he spent in TV 3, where he helped students generate ideas for Temple Update, develop their talents, hone their professional skill sets and connect with potential employers, often Temple alumni. Rick's true legacy is the endless array of Temple SCT graduates who, with Rick's tutelage, advice, encouragement and occasional tough love, are turning their professional dreams into reality.

Rick was pragmatic, well-spoken and dedicated to the university -- an institution that he loved. Temple was Rick's life. He was the beating heart of TV 3.

To celebrate his contributions to Temple and to honor Rick's legacy, we have established a fund in his name that will benefit the next generation of aspiring media professionals. We welcome your contributions supporting this fund, which will help future generations realize their dreams in the world of television news.

Warm regards,
