150th Birthday of Masatsune Ichinoi, Class of 1891
Masatsune Ichinoi
This year would mark the 150th birthday of Dr. Masatsune Ichinoi, a pioneer of western dentistry in Japan. Dr. Ichinoi graduated from the Philadelphia Dental College (later, the Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University) in 1891. Ichinoi served as dentist to three Japanese Emperors and was the first Japanese dentist to open an office in Philadelphia as well as the first Japanese professor of dentistry at the Philadelphia Dental College. Come see a special exhibit about his extraordinary life and the history of dentistry at a time when Japan was just opening up to the outside world.

Celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Kornberg School of Dentistry

150 YearsNearly 150 years ago, Dr. John Hugh McQuillen's vision—to build a dental school with a more structured curriculum, teaching both the arts and sciences of dentistry—came to life. The pioneer school he founded, then known as the Philadelphia Dental College, has influenced the lives of millions. The Kornberg School of Dentistry has educated dentists from all over the world including new generations of pioneers who, in turn, brought American dentistry to their homelands. We will celebrate our founder's revolutionary idea and all of the accomplishments that have taken place since with two days of festivities on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13, 2013.
