School of Communications and Theater

Dear <NAME>,

You may have heard about changes here at Temple's School of Communications and Theater. We're sending out this email today to keep you informed.

After months of discussion throughout campus, the Temple University Board of Trustees voted last week to realign some of our academic programs. We're excited about what the future holds and we hope you will be, too.

As of July 1, 2012, SCT will be renamed the School of Media and Communication. It will include the Departments of Advertising; Broadcasting, Telecommunication and Mass Media; Journalism; and Strategic Communication, as well as the Communication Studies undergraduate program and Mass Media and Communication doctoral program.

Additionally, a new Center for the Arts will be created. This administrative entity will oversee the Boyer College of Music and Dance and the Tyler School of Art, as well as the Departments of Film and Media Arts and Theater, which will form the Division of Film, Media Arts and Theater.

The School of Media and Communication will remain closely aligned with the Center for the Arts. FMA will remain in Annenberg Hall and Theater will continue to call Tomlinson Theater home.

The changes will not greatly impact the day-to-day education of our students, but we're sure you have a few important questions about this decision that we have addressed on our website. As we move forward in the coming months, we'll add additional information to our FAQ page, as well as send you future emails and letters to answer questions that arise as a result of this news.

Please click here to view the FAQ page.

Should you have any immediate questions, contact Director of Development Michele Blazer at 215-204-3326 or michele.blazer@temple.edu.

We look forward to guiding you through this exciting era of change and growth at Temple University.

Sincerely,
Thomas Jacobson
Interim Dean
