Master of Accountancy (MAcc) students visit with nation's top public regulators in D.C.

The Fox School’s first Master of Accountancy (MAcc) cohort ended its second semester with a much-anticipated trip to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) in Washington, D.C., this spring.

The trip offered an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at some of the government’s highest-level operations, which student Marc Sammartino described as “an extraordinary opportunity to meet one-on-one with our nation’s top accounting regulators.”

PCAOB-logoKnowing the ins and outs of such high-level agencies as the SEC, which regulates the securities industry, and the PCAOB — the private, nonprofit corporation created to oversee public company auditors — gives Temple’s MAcc students a tremendous advantage and further distinguishes the program.

“The SEC stacked our plate high with presentations about the departments with duties of relevance to accountants, such as the Division of Corporate Finance and the Office of the Chief Accountant,” said Department of Accounting Chair Eric Press.

Students met with SEC representatives from the Division of Corporate Finance, the Division of Enforcement and the Office of the Chief Accountant, and PCAOB representatives, including Jay D. Hanson, CPA, who was appointed to the PCAOB Board in January 2011.
