IA News and Updates

Scholarship Fundraising: I am happy to share that 25 university trustees have now made commitments to scholarships totaling more than $657,000, and 100% of Temple’s deans and officers have made gifts or pledges to this essential effort. Moreover, Trustee Lewis Katz, CST ’63, has pledged to match up to $200,000 of first-time young alumni donors’ gifts to scholarships through June 30. Read more.

Homecoming 2012 and Alumni Weekend 2013: Our Homecoming celebration and re-entry into the BIG EAST conference were a huge success. You can browse the best photographs and video at alumni.temple.edu/homecoming. Alumni Weekend 2013 and the Class of 1963, 1988 and 2003 reunions will take place April 19 - 21. Banner Dashboard and Snapshot Reports: I want to highlight the importance of validating your progress through the dashboard and snapshot reports. These inputs are the foundation for the reports that I present to the president and to the Board of Trustees. I am requesting your attention to the following areas: Read more.

Concur: To ensure that Development is approving and paying for your fundraising-related travel please designate 100000–47040–7500–06 as the foapal string associated with that particular Travel report. Read more.

Facilities Update: Good news on the Facilities front. As I announced earlier this week, Web Development is on track to move to the first floor of TASB on November 2nd. Read more.

Scholarship Pocket Guide: As I mentioned above, Development Communications has prepared a pocket guide to scholarship fundraising for fundraisers, senior leadership and volunteers. The guides will be distributed to all DODs and officers in the coming week; please contact Brad Porter, baporter@temple.edu, for additional copies.

Staff Updates

As we continue to grow, you will see additions in staff in the following areas:

Development: We have made significant progress in increasing our fundraising staff; we currently have 78 Gift Officers working toward our goal of $72.6M. Our most recent hires to support this effort are:

  • Athletics hired Kaitlin Livezey as the Assistant Director for Development. They have two remaining Major Gift Officer positions to be filled.
  • The College of Education has selected Susie Suh to fill the Director of Development position.
  • With Melodie Carter’s hire as a full-time Development Associate, we have completed five of the six positions afforded the Arts Team.
  • Corporate and Foundation Relations has hired one of two Associate Directors.
  • The College of Liberal Arts hired Maria Papa as Associate Director of Development.
  • Dentistry is augmenting its staff with a dedicated Communications Associate.
Marketing and Advancement Communications:
  • Web Communications has completed the hires of Thomas Cassidy and Olga Quejada as the two new Web Developers, rounding out the final additions to this team for FY2013.
  • We are drawing near to fully staffing the University Marketing team with the hire of Erin Mulrooney as the Associate Director of Digital Marketing, and the addition of a Director of Marketing and an Associate Director of New Media.
In addition, 29 positions are approved and either are or soon will be posted in key strategic growth areas, including: Marketing and Communications; Alumni Relations; Central, School/College and Athletics Development; and Advancement Services.

Good News in Institutional Advancement:

Congratulations to Regina Donovan, who married Aaron Wolfrom on Friday, October 5 at a small ceremony attended by friends and family. The couple spent their honeymoon in the Berkshires.

Please join me in congratulating Liz Kiggins. She recently gave birth to Liam Denley Kiggins (9lb, 3 oz).
