Institutional Adavancement Update

 July 2013

News and Updates

All Staff Meeting: Our next All Staff Meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 6th and will begin at 1:00 PM in training rooms’ 8A/B at our TASB location. The meeting structure is designed to incorporate time for us to highlight the many resources our department provides, and to celebrate our record-breaking fundraising year.

Karen Clarke, Temple’s new Vice President for Strategic Marketing and Communications, will be our featured speaker. Karen brings a wealth of experience to Temple and is eager to partner with us in our Advancement and Alumni Relations efforts.

Please mark your calendars and kindly RSVP to Jonathan Tutelman at jonathan.tutelman@temple.edu.

Young Alumni Definition Change: Currently Temple University defines a young alumnus as “any degree holder from the past 10 years,” which is inclusive of a vast array of ages and backgrounds. As we continue to grow, both as a division and as a university, it makes sense to realign this definition to better reflect the true intention of “young alumni” programming and philanthropy at Temple. Click here for changes effective July 1, 2013.

New Address Scan Technology: The Records Department is using scanning technology to inactivate addresses from returned mail. The new scan line incorporates the temple ID of the addressee, address type (preferred, home, work, etc.) and the address sequence number. Read more.

FY2014 Reeher Training Schedule: During Fiscal Year 2014, training on the Reeher Platform will be supported by a monthly on-site visit by a member of the Reeher team. Each month there will be a three-hour focused session in addition to one hour sessions that are geared to a small group or personal training. Reeher has committed to send the best suited person from their staff to support the monthly focus. Read more.

Stewardship Update:

  • Boyer Concert Stream: Have a donor with an interest in performing arts? Email them a link to Boyer’s Concert Stream where they can listen to orchestra and choir performances or show them the site during a visit.

  • Charles Searles Catalog: Put together by both Temple and La Salle students, the Charles Searles catalog is a great way to connect your donors with what’s going on in the Temple Art world. Read more about it here. Contact Shauna Goodman at shauna.goodman@temple.edu or 7-2020 for copies for high level donors.

Alumni Relations Update:

  • Alumni Pride Video Launches: A video commissioned by the Temple University Alumni Association has been created to welcome new students to Temple and introduce them to our traditions and the TUAA. The video, managed by Erin James, Chris Brady and Jessica Lista, and produced and voiced by Temple alumni, will be shown during new student orientation sessions throughout the summer. Click here to watch it now.

  • 2013 Gallery of Success: This year’s Gallery of Success event will be held on Friday, October 4, 12:00 PM. A nomination packet was sent to all deans and respective DoDs with a due date of confirmed honorees on Wednesday, July 31. Please build in the extra time for the vetting process by sending Christine Brady first, and at your earliest opportunity, the name of your intended honoree. We will work for a quick turnaround and approval—before you contact your honoree. Contact Christine Brady at cbrady02@temple.edu for Gallery of Success materials and with any questions.

  • Call for Upcoming Anniversaries and Milestones: As Alumni Relations begins a strategic planning process for the next five years, we ask all school and college staff to share any departmental/school/affinity anniversaries and milestones that will occur over the next five years. By collecting this information, we hope to identify opportunities to integrate these celebrations into university-wide programs and to leverage existing resources through collaboration. Please send relevant information to Lisa Vaccarelli at lisav@temple.edu.

Record-Breaking: Friday, July 12, closed the books on Fiscal Year 2013, and Temple is proud to announce that this was the most successful fundraising year in the university’s history. We reached $65.7 million in new gifts and pledges this fiscal year. The previous high was $65.4 million in 2008—the year Temple went public with the Access to Excellence campaign.

To have broken this record in a non-campaign year, and to have set a new high bar for philanthropy at Temple that has not been matched in 129 years of history, is truly an extraordinary achievement. It took the university’s entire Institutional Advancement team to make this a reality, and you should all feel a tremendous sense of pride in this incredible success.
