Boyer College of Music and Dance

Dear [name],

After 27—yes, 27!—years of service to his department, college, university and broader dance community both in Philadelphia and well beyond, Philip has decided to join the ranks of the retired.

He has asked for a quiet exit from this stage, which we are honoring. He will enjoy dinner at a lovely restaurant with the faculty and a small dinner party here at our home which will include his family as well as a few close friends.

It is our hope to fill a basket with cards, photos, emails, letters, “whatevers” sent by many of you. These Moments of Memories will be treasured by our dear Philip for years to come and definitely be a surprise for him. (Shhhhh…)

So… would you kindly take a moment to share a memory and send it on its way to me? We’d love to give him this gift on Sunday, May 19 so a “deadline” is Friday, May 17. Having said that, if you can’t meet the deadline, feel free to send things after that and I will be certain to get them to Philip.

Philip is a special person to so many of us. Let’s make his “easing into retirement” a lovely memory in and of itself; let’s fill that basket of Memories by the 17th!

Best wishes to each of you,

Dr. Sarah Hilsendager

Reflection:Response Choreographic Commission 2013

The Dance Department is pleased to announce that our second choreographic commission under our Reflection:Response speaker and performance series has been awarded to:

Charles O. Anderson/dance theatre X

This new commission will be presented on Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26 in the Conwell Theater at Temple University:

MFA alumnus, Charles O. Anderson (’02) returns to Philadelphia and the Conwell Stage with Restless Natives, an evening-length dance theatre piece inspired by the writings of James Baldwin featuring an original poetry score by critically-acclaimed performance poet Ursula Rucker. Set in a fictional juke joint called HOME, Restless Natives combines mournful celebration and passionate dance in a blues-saturated commentary on loving and being loved in 21st century America. This performance will also mark the 10th anniversary of his company dance theatre X, which made its debut at Conwell Theatre in 2003.
