Lynne Abraham is not immune to greed. No one is, she told 32 Fox School of Business Master of Accountancy (MAcc) students.
Abraham, the former Philadelphia District Attorney, spoke Feb. 21 about white-collar crime and its prosecution in the MAcc’s Law, Ethics and Regulation course. The course, taught by Legal Studies Chair Samuel D. Hodge, Jr., provides students with an introduction to the legal and regulatory framework in which businesses and individuals operate (agency, contracts, business structures, management rights and responsibilities). Prior to Abraham’s visit, the class learned about criminal liability, types of business crimes and police investigations of them.
“Greed is a motivating factor,” Abraham said. “Who doesn’t want to be rich? It’s not just companies that want to do well. It’s people.” With this introduction, Abraham cautioned the prospective CPAs about the consequences of accounting misdeeds.
