College of Liberal Arts

Greetings,

As a member of Temple University’s Phi Beta Kappa chapter, Rho of Pennsylvania, you understand the value of membership in the nation’s oldest honor society. As you know, membership is only offered to approximately 1 percent of college students in the nation. Each year no more than 10 percent of Temple’s undergraduates are invited to join the prestigious society.

In the past, faculty and deans at the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Science and Technology provided funding for the initiation fees for new members. However, due to diminishing state appropriations and a new financial model for the university, that is no longer possible. Phi Beta Kappa’s future existence at Temple requires that we build a sustainable operating fund to provide initiation fees for new members. Thus we are reaching out to our current members, asking for your financial support.

We trust you will agree that the legacy of Phi Beta Kappa is worth preserving, and we ask you to make a gift today to ensure that current and future students are afforded the same opportunities you received. A gift of $75 will support induction fees for one Temple Phi Beta Kappa member. Gifts at all levels are welcome and will help us to preserve and develop the chapter.

Please feel free to contact us with your own ideas on building Phi Beta Kappa, and do consider contributing at a funding level that is most comfortable for you.

With great appreciation,

Miles Orvell
