“Gather Around the Table” at Temple University Libraries this fall

Please join us this fall for the Libraries’ Beyond the Page public programming series. This year our series, Gather Around the Table, will frame critical conversations around the common theme of food.

•   Tuesday, September 24 at 5:30 PM

Temple Students Explore Urban Farms and Community Gardens: Moderated by Glenn Bergman of Weavers Way Co-Op.
Temple students Alex Epstein of Philly Urban Creators; Katy Ahmet with Temple Community Gardens; and students from the FarmLab architecture seminar will discuss their firsthand experiences with a variety of urban farming models. This discussion will be moderated by Glenn Bergman, the general manager of Weaver’s Way Co-op, a vital institution of community involvement in Northwest Philadelphia.
 
•   Thursday, October 10 at 2:30 PM

Join us to discuss Eating Architecture with editors Paulette Singley and Jamie Horwitz. The environments in which we prepare, produce and consume our foods both reflect and affect those processes. Eating Architecture (MIT Press, 2006), examines the interplay between food and design through twenty original essays. The Libraries and the Department of Architecture at Tyler School of Art, Temple University, welcome Singley and Horwitz to discuss this innovative text, as well as the newest developments in the design and architectural analysis of eating spaces. Alicia Imperiale, assistant professor of architectural history/theory and design at Temple, will moderate.

Join our first Chat in the Stacks of the year. Chat in the Stacks is an ongoing series of faculty conversations co-sponsored by the Faculty Senate Committee on the Status of Faculty of Color.
 
•   Tuesday, October 1 at 3:00 PM

We will host our first ever “Live from the Collections” program, featuring poetry readings by Lyn Lifshin, Elaine Terranova and Daniel Scott Snelson. Afterwards, the writers engage in a roundtable discussion on the process and archiving of poetry and incorporating the archival into the poetic. Moderated by Matthew Kalasky, Director of the Midnight Nicola St. Clair, a creative and critical force in Philadelphia.
