Celebrating 80 Years: Inaugural Department of Accounting Alumni Reunion Abounds with Connections and Humor

The Department of Accounting Alumni year-long reunion effort resulted in almost $400,000 for scholarship support to graduate and undergraduate accounting students as shown (from left) by Alumni Reunion Committee Chairman H. Richard Haverstick, BBA '74; Department of Accounting Chairman Eric Press; and Fox School of Business Dean M. Moshe Porat.

On May 21, the Fox School of Business's accounting faculty and alumni rode the elevators of the Hyatt at the Bellevue to the 19th floor for an evening of humor, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones at the first Accounting Alumni Reunion dinner.

"I think this event was a wonderful idea," says Brooke Huttner, BBA '08, of PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP. "It's been great to see a mix of recent and more tenured graduates, and have the opportunity to get to know each other."

The event drew nearly 200 Fox accounting alumni from across the region. It also facilitated networking and celebrated the Department of Accounting's year-long reunion effort in raising almost $400,000 for scholarship support for graduate and undergraduate accounting students. And since the dinner, another $44,000 was raised. The department and the 2014 Accounting Alumni Reunion Committee also presented Bernie Milano, BBA '61, president of KPMG's Disaster Relief Fund, with a Distinguished Alumni Award.

When he stepped off the elevator, Charles Lyons, BBA '54, the most senior alumnus in attendance at the reunion, was awed by the size of the crowd. "The turnout for this reunion is a testament to Temple's great program," Lyons said.
