“Tamanend’s Track” Wins Major Awards at Philadelphia Flower Show

Flower ShowMonths of hard work by Temple University Ambler students and faculty paid off with special honors for Temple’s 2014 Philadelphia Flower Show Exhibit, “Tamanend’s Track: The Path to a Portrayal of the Past.” Tamanend’s Track reflected how landscape alteration has inspired regional artists within the context of modern landscape architecture and ecological restoration. “Tamanend’s Track” was awarded the Special Achievement Award of the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania, presented to an exhibit “of unusual excellence in the category of conservation;” the Chicago Horticultural Society Flower Show Medal, awarded to an educational exhibit showing outstanding horticultural skill and knowledge in a nationally recognized flower show; and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Special Achievement Award for “best achievement in conveying a message through landscape.”Read more.


Temple University Ambler Gets Ready for EarthFest 2014

EarthFestHow do you plan on celebrating Earth Day this year? Join us for EarthFest 2014, Temple University Ambler’s annual outdoor educational festival. EarthFest 2014 will be held on Friday, April 25 from 9:30 am to 2 pm, rain or shine. There are some exciting changes in store for EarthFest this year! For the first time, the festival will be held in one location on the fields near our large student parking lot on Meetinghouse Road. At one location, EarthFest will provide a fun, exciting cohesive event that will provide an even greater experience for our visitors. Interested in volunteering? Center for Sustainable Communities Awarded $1 Million Grant

CSCTemple’s Main Campus will become a living laboratory for the study and evaluation of stormwater management controls and practices in urban environments, thanks to a four-year, $1 million grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Director Jeffrey Featherstone of the Center for Sustainable Communities, located at Temple University Ambler, is principal investigator for the multi-disciplinary grant, with Laura Toran, Weeks Chair in Environmental Geology; Mark Weir, assistant professor of public health; and Lynn Mandarano, associate professor of community and regional planning, serving as co-principal investigators. Featherstone said the project—involving researchers from civil and environmental engineering and horticulture and landscape architecture—will focus on the environmental, economic and social impacts of implementing green infrastructure to deal with stormwater-runoff issues in urban environments.
