Dear Colleagues:
As the Temple community prepares to celebrate Homecoming weekend, an email was sent to students reminding them of university standards for student conduct both on and off campus. We wanted to share with you what was communicated to students; the letter is below.
We look forward to celebrating with you this weekend. |

Letter to Temple students:
With Homecoming taking place this weekend, it is an exciting time to be a part of the Temple University community. We will dedicate the Science Education and Research Center on Friday, our football team plays Tulsa on Saturday, and there are a variety of events planned throughout the weekend for students, faculty, staff and alumni to celebrate together.
During this time, it is important that all students are mindful of our collective commitment to the community around us. Students come to Temple because our campus—and our university's history and identity—is inextricably linked with North Philadelphia. We therefore have an obligation to positively contribute to our city and to respect our neighbors.
We want to emphasize that the vast majority of Temple students are not only driven to improve themselves but are also good citizens who improve our communities. However, we have seen some concerning patterns of student behavior, particularly in neighborhoods west of Main Campus.
In order to maintain our standards for student conduct, Temple Police, operating in an extended patrol zone, continue to collaborate with city and state agencies in patrol and enforcement, giving special attention to issues of alcohol consumption, noise and trash.
So far this semester, Temple Police have issued 100 alcohol-related citations to students and another 62 to nonstudents. These enforcement efforts will continue over Homecoming weekend. Temple Police also work closely with the university Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, which holds students accountable to the Student Conduct Code.
To be clear: The Student Conduct Code is not limited to conduct within the formal boundaries of our campuses. Students are—and will continue to be—held accountable for their actions off campus.
We want you to participate in Homecoming events while at the same time respecting the North Philadelphia residents who are our neighbors. In doing so, you will leave a lasting, positive imprint, as so many Owls have done in the past.
