Finding Love -- and a Minimum of Five Peer-Reviewed Secondary Sources
By Peter Chomko, Geography & Urban Studies, and Communication ‘09
I didn’t meet my wife – a fellow Temple Honors alum – in the stacks of Paley Library, but I’ve always liked to think that I could’ve.

Realistically, this was never on: she was a dance major who spent much more time in the windowless basement studios of Pearson than she ever did in Paley, and the one torrid undergraduate love affair I actually did kindle in the library ended in (mutual) tears after a couple months and an ill-judged trip to Rhode Island (nobody’s fault, really, by which I mean my fault, honestly). But it was always nice to imagine that somebody like me could meet somebody like her and bond over a shared interest in…

…wow, it turns out it’s tough to make a good Library of Congress Classification System joke. Like, really tough. But that’s the thing – when we were undergraduates (wrote the prematurely cranky old man), “using the library stacks” wasn’t a popular thing, but it wasn’t a terrible way to meet somebody with whom you shared an interest or two. The Library of Congress “system” is such a complex one that literally no undergraduate ever has ever figured it out, ever.

Do You Have Something to Say?
Here at Honors, we are proud of our alumni. You are always showing up, talking about your amazing experience working for the UN or starting your own dance company, and we want the current students to know! If you have been thinking about ways to give back- we would love to host you on campus for the day. We could have a casual lunch with a few Honorables, put together a panel, or create an evening program, all so that students can find out what it’s like out there- in the real world. Let us know if you have any ideas or want to participate!
