A Letter from Musu

Greetings Alumni Honorables,Brad

We hope this letter finds you well and ready to embrace the excitement of summer. A fresh crop of graduates recently joined your ranks as part of the Honors alumni family. In fact, one of those grads was even the 2015 university commencement speaker! (You can check out snippets from Ifeoma's encouraging speech in the event highlights on the Temple webpage).

We're so proud of our alumni and their accomplishments during their time here in Honors and look forward to hearing about all of the cool things they're doing next. The annual senior ceremony was filled with (literal) snaps of approval as graduates shared their next steps including
  • Service through Americorps and the Peace Corps
  • Teaching for America and in Philadelphia
  • Graduate studies here and abroad in criminal justice, speech language pathology, and medicine
  • Peacemaking through a Humanity for Action fellowship
  • Working with Vanguard, Pfizer, Sunoco, and AIG
  • Postbaccalaureate studies in classics (at a neighboring Philadelphia institution that shall remain nameless, of course)
  • Active duty in the United States Army and more...
Ever-growing and changing, at the end of the summer, we will welcome the biggest class in Honors history. Over 600 freshmen plan to join us as part of the class of 2019 and they are some of the most talented Temple has seen (aside from all of you, of course). Summer orientation starts soon and we look forward to getting to know our newest Honorables, taking lots of selfies, and revving them up for awesome courses with our talented faculty.

As you all know, four years goes by in the blink of an eye. We hope you all look back on your years at Temple with lots of fond memories. Hopefully many of you will reconnect at the upcoming Honors Alumni Gathering during Homecoming in October. We can't wait to hear all about your adventures post Honors.

Be well, keep in touch, and enjoy the day,

A. Musu Davis
Senior Academic Advisor

Alumni Spotlight: Gina Hoch-Stall

Bob Orloski
Graduation Year:
Dance and Psychology, January 2010
Hometown: Oak Park, IL
Current Location: Philadelphia, PA (Queen Village)
Current Position: Artistic Director of RealLivePeople (Philadelphia-based dance company), Freelance Pilates Instructor
Recent Work: Check out our foray into dance for camera

First things first: I'm not a stripper, a musical theater star or a ballerina. I am a modern dancer.

This means that I am both an artist and an athlete; a storyteller and a curator. I dance for other choreographers and companies in Philadelphia, but my primary dance role is directing, choreographing and performing for my company, RealLivePeople. (As this doesn't pay the bills-I know you were wondering-I also teach Pilates.)

For me, there are very clear parallels between my experience in Temple Honors and my work with RealLivePeople. The first is an emphasis on excellence: depth of thought, high quality output. The second is broad appeal and interest: both in Honors and in my dance-making and performing. I have always felt that the projects I've worked on—and those created by my friends—were fascinating on their own merits, not isolated to suit the tastes of one interest group or another. This leads me to the third and greatest parallel: accessibility. Creating relatable, relevant dance—dance that welcomes audience members embedded in the Philadelphia modern dance community, casual connoisseurs of the local arts scene, and people who've never before seen a modern dance performance– is the foundation of my work as a choreographer. Similarly, if pressed to describe what I remembered and treasured most about my Honors experience, it would be how welcoming Honors staff and faculty have always been.

My experience in the open and warm atmospheres of the Honors lounge and Honors classes were such a big part of my time at Temple.
