Test of the TUalert Emergency Notification System |
|
There will be a test of the TUalert and TUsiren systems on April 9, 2015, between 11 a.m. and noon.
This test will include the sounding of the campus emergency siren system (TUsiren) and a test TUalert message sent to all registered users. If you are not sure if you are registered, check your contact information in TUportal and make sure your mobile phone number is listed. See the TUready website for more information.
What is TUalert?
TUalert is Temple University’s emergency notification system, used to communicate with students, faculty and staff during an incident. TUalert may include email, text messaging, voice messaging and/or TUsiren.
Why TUalert?
Temple University has a responsibility to provide accurate and timely information to the campus community during an emergency. TUalert will:
- Provide clear and accurate information;
-
Assist in the management of a crisis;
-
Communicate facts and minimize rumors; and
-
Restore a sense of confidence and order.
When is TUalert activated?
TUalert is activated when there is a report to Temple Police of an incident on campus determined to be an emergency requiring immediate action. TUalert may also be used in the event of a campus closure or a disruption to campus operations that necessitates immediate, clear instruction to the Temple community.
What is your role in TUalert?
Your safety is a top priority. It is up to each of us to be TUready: Be aware and be prepared.
- Receive TUalerts by updating your contact information on TUportal. Instructions are also listed on the TUready website to ensure you receive TUalerts by text message. Be sure to have your mobile phone registered. Everyone with an @temple.edu email address will automatically receive TUalerts by email.

Know what to do in the event of an emergency:
- In a real-world emergency, if you hear the TUsiren, you will likely need to Shelter-in-Place, unless otherwise instructed. This means you need to get indoors as soon as possible and remain there until you get the “all clear.” Shelter-in-place will be used only when an evacuation is not safe. Certain events, such as hazardous materials contamination or severe weather, may necessitate shelter-in-place procedures.
- Evacuation plans for every building are located by the elevators. Each building also has a rally point, a designated meeting area located a safe distance from the building. View this PDF for a list of Rally Points.
