Dear Temple University Alumni,

You are immensely important to the future success of this university and one of my top priorities is to strengthen the bond between Temple and its Alumni. To lead this effort, I am happy to share that I’m appointing Temple alumnus Kenneth E. Lawrence Jr. as our first vice president of Alumni Relations.

Ken holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Temple’s College of Liberal Arts and in his numerous community and professional associations, is already well known and respected by many in the Temple community and throughout the region. His overarching task is to dramatically expand Temple’s engagement with you, our more than 300,000 living alumni.

He starts in his new role May 1, but he is no stranger to Temple. Ken has been leading the university’s Office of Government, Community and Public Affairs since 2008. To head the Office of Government Affairs, I have promoted George Kenney as senior advisor to the president. George joined Temple in 2010, when he was named Temple's director of Commonwealth and Federal Relations.

A longtime season ticket-holder for men’s basketball and football, Ken is a member of the Conwell Society, the Owl Club and the Temple Political Science Advisory Board.

Prior to joining Temple, Ken was a successful entrepreneur as founder and president of Public Affairs Strategies, where he represented corporate and nonprofit organizations. He also worked for five years at Merck & Co., handling public, community and media relations, and served as public policy representative for the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

Ken holds a master’s degree in governmental administration from the University of Pennsylvania and has been involved with a wide variety of civic organizations. Currently he serves on the boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters Southeastern Pennsylvania, Cristo Rey High School, James A. Finnegan Foundation, Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, Pennsylvania Judicial Conduct Board and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.

He lives in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Jen, FOX ’94, and their two sons.

Please join me in welcoming Ken to his new role. I’m excited to work with him and you to create an ever brighter future for Temple University.

Sincerely,
President Neil D. Theobald
