SAUL A. RAPPAPORT (BA’63, Physics) joined MIT in 1969 and became a full professor in 1981. He joined MIT in 1969 and became a full professor in 1981. From 1993 to1995, he was head of the Astrophysics Division.

The Kepler mission provides unprecedented astronomical photometric precision, with many new stellar and planetary discoveries. Professor Rappaport will discuss the discovery of 100 planets with incredibly tight orbits about their host stars; planets that appear to be disintegrating via the emission of dusty effluents; and eclipsing binary stars where the presence of a third star in the system is detected.
