Now Accepting Nominations for Diamond Excellence Award
Every year, the Temple University Young Alumni Association presents the Diamond Excellence Award to a young alumnus or alumna who is excelling professionally. Nominees simply must be a Temple graduates age 30 or younger. If you know someone who fits the bill, send his or her name and a brief supporting paragraph to Maureen Fisher, associate director of alumni relations, at maureenf@temple.edu.

Volunteer Spotlight: Amy Larovere, SMC ’83
Splitting her time between a successful career in New York and her hometown of Philadelphia, Amy Larovere, SMC ’83, somehow finds time in her busy schedule to volunteer on behalf of her beloved Temple University. Both the current Owl Club president and a board member of the Metropolitan New York Alumni Chapter, Amy will tirelessly praise her alma mater whenever she is given the chance.

Class Notes
Samantha A. Berger, CLA ’91, published the picture book Boo-La-La Witch Spa with Penguin Young Readers. She is the author of more than 70 books for youth.

Alphonso Evans, EDU ’00, became principal and CEO of Southwest Leadership Academy Charter School in Philadelphia in 2010. During the 2012–2013 school year, Southwest Leadership Academy earned one of the highest School Performance Profile scores of all city schools from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Gerald R. Williams Jr., MED ’84, was named first vice president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He will serve as president of the organization from 2016 to 2017.
