TWN Presents: Women Who Make It Work | March 24, 2016
In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Temple Women’s Network (TWN) invites you to its highly‐ anticipated event and panel, “Women Who Make It Work.” The alumnae panelists will share their experiences and advice about balancing their careers, families and hobbies. Through an interactive discussion, we hope to shed light on the issues women in the workplace face today. There will be time for networking both before and after the panel discussion. Register today!

Volunteer Spotlight:
Mary Connell, EDU ‘77
She was already set in her career path when Mary Connell, EDU ’77, found her second home at Temple University. First as a master’s student, then as adjunct faculty and later a member and leader of multiple alumni boards. Mary’s impressive resume is littered with Temple mentions; the place, she feels, that gave her the opportunity to succeed as a professional and now a proud alumna. Temple Travels: China
 
Temple Travels: Classic China and the Yangtze | October 11‐24, 2016
Experience the legendary sites of China’s 2000‐year‐old capital of Beijing: Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the famed Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, and the Summer Palace. Enjoy a special rickshaw ride and a visit to a local family. In Xian see the terracotta army of nearly 8,000 life‐size warriors. Then check out the beloved pandas in Chongqing. Next cruise for three nights on the Yangtze to see the spectacular Three Gorges, Smaller Gorges, and the new dams. Conclude with visits to the Bund, the renowned Shanghai Museum, and the 16th‐century Yu Yuan Gardens. Check out this and other upcoming trips for Temple alumni and friends.
Class Notes
Janet Dennis, THM ’78
became an athlete after experiencing heart failure and receiving a heart transplant in 2005, when she was 50. She went on to represent Team Philadelphia at five Transplant Games of America and Team USA at four World Transplant Games, most recently in the 2015 games in Mar del Plata, Argentina. Dennis serves as a volunteer chaplain at Penn Medicine, working on the floor where she spent six‐and‐a‐half weeks waiting for a heart.

Mario Zacharjasz, TYL ’85
was named a 2015 Minority Business Leader by the Philadelphia Business Journal. He is a founding partner of PZS Architects and is former chair of the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Zacharjasz also serves on the advisory board for the Salvation Army of Greater Philadelphia, the Advisory Council for the Salvation Army Kroc Corps Community Center in Philadelphia, and has served on the boards of Delaware River Waterfront Corp. and Moore College of Art & Design.

Melanie S. Carter, LAW ’11
was elected to the board of directors of the Education Law Center, the mission of which is to ensure that all of Pennsylvania’s children have access to a quality public education. She is an associate with Blank Rome LLP. She serves on the executive committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and as financial secretary for the cabinet of the executive committee. She was recognized by The Legal Intelligencer as a 2015 Lawyer on the Fast Track.
