Parent and Family Programs
The Temple Parent and Family Program exists to partner with parents and families in order to ensure student success from enrollment through commencement. This is done by providing opportunities for parents and families to engage with their students, the University, faculty and staff, as well as other parents and family members. Through education and sharing valuable resources and services available within the University community, we hope to develop partnerships, foster tradition, and enhance Temple pride that encourages students and their parents and family members to be invested members of our community.

Our program goals are to:
  • Serve as a central resource for parents and families and enhance strong partnerships for student success
  • Develop and enrich parent and family involvement opportunities throughout the University community
  • Provide information about the student experience at Temple University
  • Foster tradition, pride, and investment in our community

The Parliament – Temple University’s Parent and Family Association
Temple University’s Parent and Family Association, The Parliament, intensifies and improves the student experience by providing parents and family members a network of support. The Parliament serves as a connection to the University and provides parents and family members with education and communication, involvement and networking, and development opportunities.

Functional Areas
Education and Communication
The Parliament facilitates communication among students, parents and family members, and University administrators in order to ensure that parents and family members have access to timely and accurate information. Additionally, the Parliament acts as a vehicle through which parents and family members can ask questions and communicate concerns. Some of these avenues include social media and our Parents and Family Newsletter.

Involvement and Networking
The Parliament provides opportunities for parents and family members to engage with the campus community and one another by participating in campus events including New Student Orientation, Move-In, Welcome Week, and Parents and Family Weekend, as well as future initiatives and programs.

Development
The Parliament works with the University to provide opportunities for parents and family members to invest in and give back to the institution through volunteer opportunities or financial contributions that support and advance the University in a variety of ways.
Owls
Owls are generally solitary, but when seen together the group is called a “parliament” as they have long been considered to be of a wise disposition. In Greek mythology, the owl is the symbol for Athena, the goddess of wisdom.

The Temple University Career Center is a central resource that builds collaborative relationships among the Temple community, and empowers students through comprehensive career development services, driving successful careers. Career services are offered online and at the Career Center. Students can explore majors, careers, and graduate school options; learn how to create their personal brand by developing their Linkedin.com profile, resume, cover letters, interview skills, networking, and job search skills. Students have access to the OwlNetwork where they select career communities of interest and connect with employers offering internships and jobs to Temple students across all industries. Students also can meet with a Career Coach Monday through Friday by dropping-in for a 15-minute appointment or by scheduling an appointment through the OwlNetwork. Throughout the semester the Career Center organizes various professional development events and networking panels that help Temple students to connect with alumni and employers, and to explore different career paths.

Student Activities: Get Involved!
Students who are engaged outside of the classroom in organizations and extracurricular activities and leadership opportunities are more likely to achieve academic success during their college experience. Involvement in these programs leads to increased GPA, graduation rates, and overall long-term achievement and satisfaction.

Engagement and Leadership Opportunities
The Office of Student Activities has a wide variety of ways for students to get involved. Our vision is “all Temple students never stop discovering”. With our vision being the focal point under which we operate, you may find that the opportunities listed below are of interest to your student.
  • Student Organizations - There are over 300 student organizations registered with our office ranging a wide array of interests.
  • Temple Student Government (TSG) - TSG represents the collective voice of the student body at Temple. Therefore, it is important that students use TSG as a tool to positively impact life at the University. Students may get involved regardless of their experience level.
  • Main Campus Programming Board (MCPB) - Temple University's #1 event planning student organization. They are a student run organization that plans events during the Freshman Welcome Week, Homecoming Week, and many other fun events on and off campus throughout the academic semesters.
  • Fraternities and Sororities - Temple has 28 fraternities and sororities in total. As our office continues to spread the message of responsible involvement and most importantly academic excellence, first year students interested in fraternity and sorority life are permitted to join starting in the spring 2016 semester. For more information please check the following website: Fraternities and Sororities at Temple University.
  • Service Immersion Program - The vision of the immersion program is to actively engage Temple University students in meaningful experiences that foster cultural awareness, global understanding, and social responsibility through learning, service and reflection. More information about each trip can be found at the following link: Student Activities Service Immersion Program.
The items listed above are just a glimpse of how to get involved on campus. Your student may explore these among others. We invite you to continue to help us spread the message of responsible involvement that encourages exploration, but is also mindful of the importance of managing one’s time appropriately. Feel free to visit our website for more information about our office and initiatives at Temple University Student Activities.
