Happy Thanksgiving from the College of Education at Temple University

Whether you’re a current student, alumnus, faculty/staff, or friend of the College of Education, you’re part of our community. Thanksgiving brings communities together and allows us to reflect on all we’re grateful for. During this holiday weekend we also take time to consider how we can make a difference in the lives of others. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we want to tell you about the global giving movement of #GivingTUesday. Now in its fifth year, it falls on November 29. The idea is simple: We have Thanksgiving for giving thanks, Black Friday and Cyber Monday for getting deals. #GivingTUesday is a special day for giving back.

And if you give back on #GivingTUesday, you’ll double your impact! Your gift will be 100% matched until we raise $2,500 in donations. Donate on November 29 to help reach (and surpass) our #GivingTUesday goal to raise $5,000 for the Urban Youth Leadership Academy (UYLA).

The UYLA is a newly established mentoring program. Through designing and managing a school/community improvement project, youth will build resilience along with academic, life and leadership skills. The program’s first group of participants includes six middle school students attending Tanner G. Duckrey School and Dunbar Academics Plus School, which neighbor Temple University Main Campus in North Philadelphia.

Your donation to the UYLA will ensure the long-term success of this program’s mission to empower local youth to create positive change within their communities.
