President Englert and Provost Epps welcome you to Temple for the new academic year!
Temple University

Dear students,

Whether you are returning to campus after summer break or just joining the Owl family, we welcome you to Temple for the new academic year!

Campus changes

You will see some big changes on campus, including a brand new Temple Owl statue in our newly renovated Founder’s Garden.

There are other changes too: The Howard Gittis Student Center has a new look and new food options. And rising higher in the middle of campus is our state-of-the-art library.

We know it can all be a little overwhelming, so we have an interactive map to help you navigate Main Campus.

One other construction note: With work on 1810 Liacouras Walk underway, Tuttleman Counseling Services has relocated to new facilities at 1700 N. Broad St.

Safety and preparedness

Mark your calendar for Sept. 27, when you can meet teams from Temple’s Office of Emergency Management and Campus Safety Services at the TUready Fair. With September being both National Campus Safety Awareness month and National Preparedness month, it’s also a good time to review Temple’s emergency procedures, which include instructions for evacuation, shelter-in-place and lockdown. You can also visit TUready to learn more about receiving public safety messages through TUalert and what to do in an emergency. Finally, remember to take advantage of our Flight on-demand shuttle, and the walking escort program, as well as the TUmobile app (on Apple and Android devices), which includes an interactive map of campus.

Let’s make history!

In early October, we will attempt to set two Guinness World Records. One challenge is to collect the largest amount of donated socks, which will be given to The Joy of Sox, a nonprofit organization providing socks for the homeless. The other is to create the largest-ever gathering of people wearing mismatched socks. Please visit the Main Campus Program Board and follow them on social media @TempleMCPB for details.

We look forward to seeing you around campus and wish you a great start to the Fall 2017 semester.

Sincerely,
Richard M. Englert
President
