To the Temple University Community:

We write to respond to acts of violence and intimidation reported to have taken place at universities and colleges over the past week, and to offer resources to help those who may be concerned.

Significant incidents like these can create unease and even fear. You don’t have to deal with the situation alone. Temple University is a community that cares about its students, faculty and staff and has resources to help you:

• Counselors at Tuttleman Counseling Services are available to speak to students during the week. There also are self-help tools available on the website with information about stress reduction and self-care.
An Employee Assistance Program is available to all full-time faculty and staff through LifeWorks.
The Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity, Advocacy and Leadership (IDEAL) is available to assist students in navigating difficult dialogue on a one-on-one or group basis.

We will not tolerate acts of violence, threats or intimidation. Should you believe that your safety or well-being is threatened, or observe that someone else’s safety is threatened, we encourage you to immediately contact Temple Police at 1-1234 or 215-204-1234. If you are off campus call 911.

It is a hallmark of an academic institution to have thoughtful and respectful conversations, and to value a broad range of ideas and opinions. Temple is a community that respects the right of all people to express their views as protected by the First Amendment.

Thank you for your commitment to our university’s values.

Sincerely,
Richard M. Englert
