Temple University is launching a new, on-demand evening shuttle service to better meet the needs of students, faculty and staff living around Main Campus.

Flight, our new shuttle system, will replace Owl Loop and TUr Door services beginning the night of Monday, March 14. Flight shuttles will operate from 5:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. seven days per week during the academic year. Separate shuttles to Ambler Campus, the Health Sciences Center and the Temple Administrative Services Building remain in operation.

Trips on Flight must begin or end at a residential address within the service boundaries of Cumberland Avenue, Girard Avenue, Fifth Street and 20th Street.

Pickups and drop-offs will be available at seven Main Campus locations:
  • the bus shelter located between Paley Library and the TECH Center
  • Howard Gittis Student Center
  • Independence Blue Cross Recreation Center
  • Johnson and Hardwick halls
  • Morgan Hall
  • SEPTA Regional Rail station
  • Tyler School of Art
Students, faculty and staff can request a ride on Flight by downloading the TapRide app for iPhone or Android and selecting Temple from the list of university partners, logging in with Temple AccessNet credentials, and selecting a location and a destination. Users should plan ahead and schedule a ride before they're ready to leave.

Once a pickup location and a drop-off destination are selected, the app will assign a shuttle and an estimated time of arrival based on a driver's current location and the number of other pickups or drop-offs en route to the passenger. Upon arrival, the driver can use the app to send a notification to the passenger's smartphone to indicate a ride is ready.

In addition to the smartphone app, users can access the web-based version of TapRide via TUportal or the TUmobile app starting Monday.

This service not only leverages new technology, but also responds to student demand for a two-way transportation system that can take members of the Temple community from Main Campus to their nearby residences and vice versa. To test and improve the system, we will be using student volunteers during Flight's initial rollout.

I would like to thank the members of Temple Student Government for their advocacy and collaboration in launching Flight. Visit temple.edu/flight for more information. Email questions or comments to shuttle@temple.edu.
