It gives me great pleasure to announce that Temple surged into the top tier of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education
As Temple’s reputation grows, your degree wins attention and respect. It’s never been more valuable.
Dear Temple alumni,

I’m committed to doing everything I can to increase the value of your Temple degree in the job market and in the hearts and minds of millions who see Temple’s reputation rising. So it gives me great pleasure to announce that our university just surged into the top tier of the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Temple is now the fifth Pennsylvania university in the highest category (Doctoral University, Highest Research Activity)—joining Penn, Penn State, Carnegie Mellon, and Pitt.

This achievement is the result of our strategic effort to build a world-class, life-changing research enterprise. Our top tier status will fuel our unprecedented momentum. As a top institution, we have more potential to hire great faculty, attract more research funding, and generate even more impact. As Temple’s reputation grows, your degree wins attention and respect. It’s never been more valuable.

Many of you ask me how you can help. There are several ways.
  • Advocate for Temple. This is a challenging era in higher education. It helps when we all demonstrate Temple’s value to prospective students, legislators and the general public. Speak up with pride about the many great things happening at your university.
  • Hire an Owl. You know the uncommon drive of Temple graduates. Whether as an intern or a full-time employee, an Owl can energize your workplace.
  • Give back to the university. Alumni giving rates are an important factor in college rankings. It’s not how much you give but the percentage of alumni who give back that counts most. Temple’s place in the rankings is rising, and giving what you can is a major help.
As proud members of the Temple community, we know Temple’s value. I hope you are as proud as I am that your university has earned its place among the very best in the nation. Please join me in making sure the whole world knows it too.

Sincerely,
