Dr. David Ricketts, professor of cariology and conservative dentistry and honorary consultant in restorative dentistry at the Dundee Dental School, University of Dundee, Scotland, will present “Restorative Management of Caries - Black to the Future.” His lecture will address the carious process, when along the continuum of the carious process preventive management alone is no longer viable and when operative caries management should be considered. He will review operative caries management from GV Black to current clinical practice, looking at cavity design and caries removal.

Following Dr. Ricketts’ lecture, Dr. Kim Ekstrand, associate professor of cariology and Endodontics, Dundee Dental School, University of Dundee, Scotland, will present “Caries Risk Detection and Activity Assessment: Fundamentals for the Cariological Management of Our Patients.” She will address the process of making caries diagnosis and where it differs from caries risk assessment. The scientific background for dividing caries into three diagnosis and the suggested treatment options will be discussed.
