Last month, Michelle Obama, Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack visited the new Fresh Grocer next to Main Campus. The same day, the first lady lauded research done at Temple’s Center for Obesity Research and Education as "extraordinary and revolutionary."

Four Temple Fencers to Compete at 2010 NCAA Championships
Seniors Melissa Parker and Kristin Howell, sophomore Kamali Thompson and freshman Mikayla Varadi have been selected to the field of 144 competitors at the 2010 NCAA Men's and Women's Fencing Championships.

Crew Brings Home Gold in Keuper Cup
Both the men's team and women's team won three races at the Keuper Regatta on March 13, earning them the overall team point trophy.

This month, Temple Theaters' presents RENT on Main Campus, and the Temple University Symphony Orchestra performs at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and New York City's Lincoln Center.

Temple Theaters' Original Play SHOT! Invited to National Festival
SHOT!, an original play written by Temple's Kimmika Williams-Witherspoon, will appear at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival on April 14 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

Boyer Jazz Student Named Top Saxophonist in North America

Daniel Janklow, a 20-year-old junior at Temple's Boyer College of Music and Dance, recently was awarded top honors and $1,500 prize money from the North American Saxophone Alliance Competition.

won the 2010 Scott O'Dell Award for Historical Fiction for his graphic novel, The Storm in the Barn (Candlewick Press, 2009).

Anthony Buckley, SBM '96, has been promoted to deputy director (CFO) for the Oregon Department of Energy.

Stephanie Hunt-Bird, TYL '82, recently published her fifth book, The Big Book of Soul: The Ultimate Guide to the African American Spirit: Legends & Lore, Music & Mysticism, Recipes & Rituals (Hampton Roads, 2010).

The verdict is in: Last month, we asked readers how they would cheer on the Owls throughout March Madness. An overwhelming number of respondents (61 percent) said that they would watch the basketball games from the comfort of their own sofa. Roughly one third (29 percent) said they would see a game live.
