Greetings from the Art History Department at Temple University's Tyler School of Art!
Tyler has made incredible strides, from our new, state-of-the-art building to supporting several national conferences. We are an institution that every alumnus and faculty member can be proud to call their own.
The Art History Department has contributed tremendously to Tyler's success. Our PhD in art history has recently earned the distinction of being ranked in the top 15 art history doctoral programs in the U.S., according to Academic Analytics.
This year, to continue on our path of success, we will be launching a new initiative: the Art History Visiting Lecture Series. This initiative will enable us to invite art history alumni, emeritus faculty and scholars from around the globe to our campus to share their knowledge and expertise on a range of relevant subjects and topics in the art world. These lectures will be open to our students, alumni and faculty, as well as to the broader university community and beyond, providing excellent platforms for discussions, education and growth.
Recent visiting lectures have included "The Three 'F's of Art Crime: Fraud, Forgery and Fakes," by Robert Wittman, former senior investigator for the FBI's Art Crimes Squad; "Printing Fabric, Silking Spiders, and Constructing Fire: Producing Contemporary Art at the Fabric Workshop and Museum," by Mary Anne Friel, project coordinator and master printer, Fabric Workshop and Museum; and "Cycladic Figurines: An Overview," by Peggy Sotirakopoulou, visiting Fulbright Scholar at Bryn Mawr College. These presentations, by emerging and established arts professionals and scholars, are a constant source of excitement and inspiration and provide just one example of how we connect our students with the real world of visual arts practice.
We need your help to make the Art History Visiting Lecture Series a prominent and enduring piece of the Tyler educational experience, and ask that you make a gift to help create a permanent endowment that would fund this series in perpetuity. As always, the size of your gift is not as important as giving itself: Even a small contribution will make a significant difference for our current and future artists and educators.
Please consider making a gift now by visiting myowlspace.com/makeagift (after selecting "Tyler School of Art" from the first dropdown on the giving form, select "Art History Visiting Lecture Series" from the second dropdown). Checks are also welcome at the address below (made payable to Temple University with "Art History Visiting Lecture Series" on the notation line).
